New Year's ResolutionsIt’s official! Today, 17th January, is officially Ditch New Year’s Resolution Day! Often resolutions are focussed on  a healthier lifestyle based around exercise and diet but sometimes it involves making a major life change such as changing jobs or relocating.

How have you done this year? Did you make any New Year Resolutions  and if you did, have you been able to stick to them? If you are still going strong, give yourself a well deserved pat on the back because you have shown that you have the willpower to stick to a plan.

Unfortunately, most people will have already failed  and that’s probably because their resolutions were either not specific eg lose weight or they were unrealistic eg lose 3 stone by the end of January.

The good news is that if your good intentions barely made it in to January, it is not the end of the world; there are 366 days in 2020 and every day you wake up and get up is another opportunity to change your habits.

So, starting again: Focus on one thing that you want to change and break down what you need to do to achieve it.

It might be appropriate to have an end date in sight eg your birthday or an event.

Whatever your aim, use your calendar to keep records, set yourself interim goals and reward yourself when you achieve these goals.

It’s  a good idea to have someone who will support you in changing your habits; so if you want to walk 10,000 steps every day or  be able to run a 5k by Easter, then teaming up with a friend, or joining a club is a great idea.

If you decide to see a professional for support, then do your research:

  • personal trainer
  • nutritionist
  • coach
  • mentor
  • therapist

Which one is right for you?

At this time of year I typically see clients who want to lose weight, stop smoking or overcome a food addiction of some kind.
