Hypnotherapy or hypnosis?
You won't turn me into a chicken, will you?
Hypnotherapy is becoming far more mainstream as a way of dealing with many issues such as anxiety, stress and confidence etc. Sometimes however, people are hesitant because they confuse stage hypnosis (the old scenario of getting someone to eat an onion but taste an apple, or to forget their own name) for entertainment, with hypnoTHERAPY, which uses the state of hypnosis to elicit change. The clue is in the name!
What do you think it feels like?
Everyone experiences it in their own way - some people think they remember everything I say; others can recall nothing... It doesn't matter either way because I am working with the Unconscious to make change.
If someone were to come into the room during the session whilst you were in hypnosis, you would simply look as if you were sleeping - but in fact you are very aware.
Hypnosis is a state of altered perception in which it is possible for the mind to be receptive to suggestion: you can take yourself to the most idyllic beach, forest or countryside...
Have you ever been reading a book, or watching a film, only to find that you have drifted off and have no recollection of the last 10 pages or previous ten minutes? You have experienced a trance-like state - not asleep, not awake, but able to respond immediately should an emergency occur...
Hypnotherapy for just about anything! From anxiety to bedwetting, fear of spiders to teeth grinding, weight issues, sleeplessness, self esteem and smoking, you can get some idea of the range of issues by having a look at the samples on the Reviews page. It should not be used as an alternative to seeing your GP for medical advise, but regarded as a complimentary service.
The majority of my clients have Anxiety but I also work with the issues listed above and a lot more besides.
Also, relaxation through hypnosis enabling the client to "let go" is perfect for those who do not like/cannot have a physical massage.
Typically for issues such as Anxiety, we would be working together online for approximately 4 sessions over a 4-6 week period. Between sessions you may have a recording to use each day, exercises to focus on breathing techniques or perhaps I'll ask you to keep a positive journal, either in a little notebook or using your phone. The beginning of each subsequent session reviews progress to date so that your session is tailored just for you.
How does it work on Zoom?
It works really well!
All of my sessions are now online using Zoom. It's just as effective on Zoom as in person; you just need to be sitting in a supportive chair, with a laptop or tablet at a level where I can see your upper body, wearing headphones and with a good internet connection. We prepare before the session so that you know what to do if we lose connection.
