TFT(Thought Field Therapy)
TFT, also known as Tapping, has to be one of my favourite therapies of all!
Tapping is super easy to do, and did you know that lots of issues, both emotional and physical can be helped by using it?
It has actually been around quite some time and was originally known as the Callahan Technique, named after its creator, Roger Callahan.
There have been lots of variations on the theme so you may well be aware of the most well known which is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) however, unlike EFT, it is much simpler and very effective. In fact I am a practitioner in both EFT and TFT but of the two, my preference is TFT.
It doesn't require hypnosis but simply a focus on the issue whilst the therapist and client tap on various points of the head, hand or body in a particular sequence, depending on the issue.
TFT is excellent for dealing with long standing issues such as trauma, but also for emotions such as rage or guilt or embarrassment.
It worked for me!
My own experience of tapping techniques was actually many years ago, whilst I was still training to be a hypnotherapist. I was scheduled to have an MRI scan and possibly an injection as part of the process; I was quite terrified as I was claustrophobic and at that time also had a massive fear of injections.
I went to see a colleague who used tapping techniques with me to bring down my claustrophobia and needle fears; the whole session took less than an hour but I felt so much better and left with some tapping techniques to use if I became anxious.
Fast forward to the actual scan and I was absolutely fine! I used some tapping just to address a bit of anxiety I felt in the waiting room but had no issues with the scan itself.
Typically it takes only one or two sessions to resolve long standing issues.
I now use TFT with the majority of my clients as a starting point before going on to hypnotherapy, allowing me to really tune in to the specific issue, which in turn is likely to reduce the number of sessions of hypnotherapy required.
No matter what the issue being addressed I usually include TFT, either as part of the first session, or as an ongoing homework task. Don't worry, I will teach you the technique during the session and give you a handout with the sequence to use at home. I have taught this self-help method to clients across the age range from teenagers up to a lady in her eighties, so it really is very simple to learn.
TFT Triangle Technique
I always ask my clients to build the Triangle Technique into their daily routine, for example, do it morning and night when cleaning teeth or having a shower. It takes less than a minute to do and really sets you up for the day! It is simply a sequence of tapping which starts on the side of one hand and then points on the face, before tapping on the other hand to complete a triangle pattern. It doesn't matter whether you start on the left or the right hand as you cover both during the sequence. I also add in a couple of extra moves for the morning sequence to give an energy boost.
If you are a member of LinkedIn you can also find a short video on there demonstrating how to do the sequence known as The Triangle Technique - it really is very easy to do!
